MSU monitors conditions, expects normal operations Friday

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥旂哿κ悠 officials are monitoring weather conditions, with current plans to continue normal operations for all classes, activities and work schedules on Friday, Jan. 21.

The decision was reached by the university administration after consulting forecasts and advisories from the National Weather Service, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and MSU Geosciences Department.

聽鈥淲e are constantly evaluating information and consulting with meteorologists. As of this afternoon, we plan to continue normal operations throughout Friday. However, we will update weather related announcements as necessary,鈥 said Sid Salter, MSU鈥檚 chief communications officer. 鈥淎t this point, our expectations are for significant winter weather to occur to the west and north of the Starkville campus, but that conditions should not deteriorate significantly on campus that would pose a danger to students, faculty or staff.鈥

Salter said students, faculty and staff should monitor local media outlets, social media, and to stay aware of changing weather conditions and for MSU operations updates.

Each person should use good judgment in evaluating risks along individual commute routes and use caution while driving and when making travel decisions and planning weekend travel. In particular, students considering going home for the weekend who live in the areas expected to receive severe winter weather are encouraged to make wise decisions about travel plans.
