STARKVILLE, Miss.—Two members of çÛÁ¦ÊÓƵ’s Bass Fishing Club earned a second-place finish at the YETI FLW College Fishing Southeastern Conference bass tournament held recently on Lake Seminole in Georgia.
Jack D. Stegall of Carriere and Caleb A. Hebert of Poplarville accepted a $1,000 prize—on the club’s behalf—for their accomplishment, which also qualifies them to represent MSU in the 2018 YETI FLW College Fishing National Championship.
Stegall is a marketing major in the university’s College of Business; Hebert, a wildlife, fisheries and aquaculture major in the College of Forest Resources. Both are juniors.
YETI FLW College Fishing is a nationwide, competitive bass-fishing program open to all full-time students at four-year colleges and universities, as well as community college students. It consists of 15 qualifying events, one open and the national championship. For more information, visit .
Led by president Jeff Roman Clayton IV, a senior forestry/wildlife management major from Theodore, Alabama, the MSU Bass Fishing Club is one of many organizations that offer participation through MSU’s recreation department.
In addition to merchandise sales, funding for the club is provided by a number of sponsoring companies, whose logos are featured prominently on members’ jerseys. For more information or to purchase club merchandise, visit .
Anyone looking to become a well-rounded and competitive fisherman or woman is welcome to join the club. Members typically meet twice a month. All members must pay $250 in annual club dues.
Along with competing on lakes across the southeastern, central and northern U.S., club members are active in the local community. Volunteer efforts include donations of fishing clothing to the Palmer Home in Columbus, as well as member participation and contributions to such ongoing university fundraising events as the Turkey Trot and Relay for Life.
