Candidate No. 1 for State Chemist/Ƶ Chemical Lab director announced
The first candidate for the position of State Chemist and Ƶ Chemical Laboratory director is Robert J. “Joe” Griffitt. He will be giving an open presentation to the MSU community on Tuesday, June 14 at 2 p.m. in the Bost theatre. The presentation will also be livestreamed.
Griffitt currently serves as director of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi, a position he has held since 2019. He has been a faculty member at USM since 2008, holding assistant professor, associate professor and professor positions at the university. From 2015-2019, he served as associate director of the Division of Coastal Sciences at USM.
Griffit earned a doctorate in environmental health sciences from the University of South Carolina, as well as a master’s degree in marine science from USC and a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
