STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥旂哿κ悠 faculty members continue tackling tough issues in this semester鈥檚 MSU Faculty Book Talk series hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences鈥撯搕his month highlighting Melody Fisher, an associate professor in the Department of Communication.

Free to all, Fisher鈥檚 talk is Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in Mitchell Memorial Library鈥檚 John Grisham Room and will include a discussion of 鈥淭he Untold Power: Underrepresented Groups in Public Relations,鈥 published by聽Business Expert Press in 2022.聽

鈥淭he MSU Faculty Book Talk series hopes to highlight and celebrate academic books and the MSU faculty who write them,鈥 said Eric Vivier, MSU associate professor of English and director of the MSU Faculty Book Talk series.

鈥淪cholarly monographs remain the gold standard of research for many disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences. They represent years of careful thinking, planning and writing; their publication can refresh scholarly conversations and alter intellectual paradigms in ways that journal articles cannot. We need academic books, and we need to support those who write them,鈥 said Vivier, also a faculty fellow with MSU鈥檚 Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College.

Additional talks to follow this semester include a Nov. 17 talk by Gary Ervin, a Department of Biological Sciences professor who will discuss his book 鈥淭he Biology of Aquatic and Wetland Plants鈥澛(CRC Press, 2023).

Earlier this semester, the college hosted Peter DeGabriele, an associate professor of English who presented selections from his 2023 University of Virginia Press publication 鈥淒rone Enlightenment: The Colonial Roots of Remote Warfare.鈥
