MSU鈥檚 State Singers to perform new work from world-renowned Swedish composer next week

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擳he 幺力视频 Department of Music鈥檚 State Singers will perform a new work from Swedish composer M氓rten Jansson next week.

The State Singers, MSU鈥檚 premiere choral-vocal ensemble, will present Jansson鈥檚 new work at the 鈥淩equiem Novum鈥 concert Feb. 29., 7 p.m., at Starkville鈥檚 First Baptist Church, located at 106 East Lampkin Street.

Jansson is currently conducting a residency with the MSU Music Department and will give a talk before the concert. The choir will perform under the direction of Phillip Stockton, MSU interim director of choral studies.

Jansson is a classical music composer with a focus on sacral music. His works have been presented, published and commissioned worldwide. He received his master鈥檚 in music education from the Royal College of Music in Sweden and currently serves as a voice, music theory, conducting and choir teacher at Uppsala University in Sweden.

Founded in 2011, the State Singers have performed at national and international venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, the White House, and in other countries such as France, Czech Republic, Austria and Spain.
