91.1 The Junction: MSU radio boasts new name, sound and voice

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥旂哿κ悠碘檚 radio station is celebrating its 30th year in operation with a new name, new sound and new pulse for the Golden Triangle community.
91.1 The Junction, formerly known as World Class Radio, combines the diversity of MSU鈥檚 campus with the liveliness of The Junction on gamedays. The new image and branding now represents the true nature of the station鈥擜dult Album Alternative format where the genres of alternative, blues, indie rock, pop and Americana converge.
Neil Price, the station鈥檚 general manager since October, has made great strides to improve the station鈥檚 coverage, facilities, student engagement, experiential learning and branding.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a junction where different forms of music come together with local to international news,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e aren鈥檛 just music. We are a conduit for information for the community. We鈥檙e here to support MSU and our community. It鈥檚 more than just music, it鈥檚 a public trust."

The non-commercial station serves as a learning laboratory for students across nearly all colleges on campus, providing experiential, or hands-on learning opportunities in radio operations and broadcasting, news and sports reporting, writing and weather forecasting.
David Garraway, associate director of the Office of Public Affairs and University Television Center director, is enthusiastic about the station鈥檚 progress and Price鈥檚 continued efforts to improve its programming and help fulfill the university鈥檚 motto鈥攍earning, research, and service.
鈥淲e redeployed our resources to create a relevant news source for our community,鈥 Garraway said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e making long-term strategic investments to last us decades and remain a community presence in this area for the next 30 years and more.鈥
The Junction, with a 70-mile listening radius around campus, is now home to the university鈥檚 new morning show 鈥淢usic and More,鈥 featuring news, sports, weather and extended music blocks, hosted by Price. The show runs weekdays from 7-10 a.m. and can be found on the radio dial at 91.1 FM, online using the TuneIn radio app or at .
Since its creation in 1994, the station has won more than 50 state and national awards The Junction operates within the university鈥檚 Division of Strategic Communications, which includes strategic marketing / branding, university news, graphic design and photography units, and the University Television Center.
