STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥旂哿κ悠 is unveiling a fresh update for the campus Subway restaurant, along with opening a new Bento Sushi.

The restaurants are in the newly renovated space that formerly housed the University Florist and are part of the broad-scale project which includes a major renovation to Perry Cafeteria. While the Subway and Bento Sushi are opening just in time to welcome students for the 2024-25 school year, Perry is scheduled to reopen in fall 2025. Subway opens for business Saturday [Aug. 10], and Bento Sushi opens Sunday [Aug. 11].

MSU President Mark E. Keenum and Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt gave brief remarks at a Friday [Aug. 9] ribbon cutting ceremony. Keenum said offering excellent campus dining options is a priority, along with ensuring that all aspects of campus life are optimal as students pursue their academic endeavors.

鈥淜eeping our students well fed is a very important obligation, and we want to provide outstanding, healthy, nutritious options as they are studying very hard and preparing for their future,鈥 said Keenum, adding that campus construction signifies welcome progress and ongoing improvements.

Both Keenum and Hyatt made a point to thank the university鈥檚 food services provider Aramark, which operates MSU Dining Services.

鈥淭oday鈥檚 occasion is the first of a very exciting set of renovations to our dining program that our students have asked for over the course of the past several years,鈥 Hyatt said. 鈥淪o today we are delighted to be cutting this ribbon, and I want to say how grateful we are to Aramark for the investment in our dining program and their partnership.鈥

While Perry Cafeteria is closed during the upcoming academic year, additional food trucks will help service campus dining needs, in addition to other major campus eateries like the Fresh Food Co. Additionally, local business Umble Coffee opens its second location within the campus Barnes & Noble on Aug. 12.
