STARKVILLE, Miss.—An Egg Bowl tradition continues Sunday [Nov. 24] when ��Ƶ and University of Mississippi Army ROTC cadets partner for the 12th annual Egg Bowl Run.

MSU Army ROTC cadets will leave campus at 2:30 a.m. and carry a football from Starkville to Calhoun City, where they will hand it off to the UM cadets for the second leg of the 100-mile run to Oxford. The transfer of the ball will take place at approximately 1 p.m. in the Calhoun City square.

MSU cadets will carry several ceremonial footballs on the nine-hour more than 50 mile run. They will then present the city of Calhoun with one football, keep one in Starkville and present another to UM cadets.

Maj. Stephen Scott, professor of military science and director of the Department of Military Sciences at MSU, said the Egg Bowl rivalry extends beyond the football field. This year’s run will feature a tug-of-war competition and a food drive competition in Calhoun City—both of which Scott expects MSU to win.

“Over the years, the run has grown to incorporate counterparts from our sister ROTC programs, MSU’s Air Force and UM’s Air Force and Navy, while also highlighting community gratitude as we join in Calhoun City,” Scott said. “The school rivalry serves as reason enough for our cadets as they coordinate between the MSU Army and Air Force programs to ensure we beat Ole Miss in every aspect of the event.”

Food drive donations can be dropped off at MSU’s Army ROTC headquarters in Middleton Hall and at the Sanderson Recreation Center. The Calhoun County food pantry will distribute the food to those in need.

The Bulldogs and Rebels will face off in the Egg Bowl on Friday, Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving at 2:30 p.m. in Oxford. The game will be televised on ABC.
