MSU announces remote operations Friday due to winter weather

Contact: Allison Matthews

STARKVILLE, Miss.—çÛÁ¦ÊÓƵ (Starkville campus and the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville) will conduct remote operations Friday, Jan. 10.

Citing an abundance of caution, the university is responding to weather predictions including snow, freezing rain and icy conditions that are expected to produce dangerous travel. Remote operations guidance is found here:

MSU-Meridian will maintain normal hours and operations as weather impacts are not anticipated for that area.

Classes are not impacted since MSU’s spring semester is scheduled to begin Jan. 15.

On campus, Subway will open 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Maroon Markets in Griffis Hall and the Wise Center are open 24/7. The Colvard Student Union, Sanderson Center and Mitchell Memorial Library will be closed.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling and to allow extra time. The university asks that each person exercise good judgment in making travel and personal safety decisions, with special precautions toward bridges, stairs and sidewalks during icy conditions.

MSU encourages all students, faculty and staff to monitor the MSU website and official social media, as well as local media outlets, for changing weather information and operational updates.

Starkville MSU Area Rapid Transit (SMART) will be suspended for the day.

Media inquiries should be directed to Sid Salter, MSU Vice President for Strategic Communications, at 601-507-8004 or ss51@msstate.edu.
